Group sittings are led by practice leaders – experienced community members who are responsible for opening the front door before the sitting begins and ringing the bell at the end of the sitting. Please contact the office if you would like to serve as a practice leader and meet the following requirements: you have a daily sitting practice, are a member of CIMC, and have three years of Vipassana practice at CIMC with some intensive retreat experience.

Sitting meditation consists of two 30 minute sitting sessions broken up by 10 minutes of walking meditation. A wide variety of cushions, benches, and chairs are available to make all practitioners comfortable.

Regular Kong-An (Koan) interviews with Zen Master Bon Haeng are conducted as part of the evening practice.

These group sessions offer basic instruction in insight meditation (Vipassana) on a drop-in basis, convenient for people who need a flexible schedule. No registration is required. Each class includes instruction, meditation practice, and discussion. This class is appropriate for first-time meditators as well as those with some meditation experience.

Note: Please arrive on time and plan to stay for the entire class. The front door will be locked at 6 pm when the class begins.

Meditation practice and Buddhist philosophy discussion with people under the age of thirty. This ongoing weekly practice session and discussion group provides an incredible opportunity to meet other young people from the Boston area. Anyone who already has a meditation practice in any Buddhist tradition, or would like to start one, is encouraged to attend. Meditation instruction is available, free of charge. The evening includes meditation instruction and sitting, a talk by a senior student of the community or discussion led by one of the Under Thirty regulars, and tea and cookies afterwards.
