Forrest Yoga

Ana Forrest developed her style of yoga, Forrest Yoga, in the 1970s. She started yoga at the age of 14 on a dare. At the time, she was suffering from a birth abnormality that left her legs weak and made walking clumsy and painful. When a classmate declared that Ana was incapable of doing yoga, she took up the challenge by taking a class. Despite her inflexibility and awkwardness, she continued to push herself to participate in more yoga classes.

Forrest suffered pronounced emotional and psychological challenges as well as physical ones that were addressed in many ways by her yoga practice. Similarly, Forrest yoga classes are intended to help students discover and heal emotional as well as physical blocks. Students are encouraged to set an intention at the beginning of a class to focus on both their emotional and physical reactions.
